The tear was a vertical six-inch slit at the bottom left corner of the masterpiece. The Met believes that the painting will survive repairs and has indicated that the rip was not near the focal point of the painting. The museum did not elaborate on how the woman fell.

Alice Walton Procures New Portrait Robert Louis Stevenson and His Wife

,

As covered in a previous post about Alice Walton’s art museum, Crystal Bridges, Alice Walton has become a determined collector of American art over the years. Recently, Alice Walton’s blooming museum procured a new gem–this time a painting by John Singer Sargent called Robert Louis Stevenson and His Wife, which depicts the author famous for The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde deep in (presumably) literary thought.

Alice Walton revealed another painting that will be included in Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art’s permanent collection while in New York City promoting Arkansas tourism.

The painting, a portrait called Robert Louis Stevenson and His Wife by John Singer Sargent, was last sold at a Sotheby’s auction in 2004 for $ 8. 8 million including buyer’s fees.

It depicts Stevenson, who authored literary classics Treasure Island and The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, pacing a room with his wife nearby.
