We’re sad to report that iconic teen film director John Hughes died of a heart attack at the age of 59.
Hughes was the director of such classic comedies as The Breakfast Club, Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, and arguably his greatest masterpiece, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Though he usually went for laughs, Hughes always infused his films with humanity and compassion.
Hughes had a keen ear for teen speech and a keen eye for the effects of bullying, loneliness, and youthful alienation. A masterful director who brought out the best in his actors, Hughes will be sorely missed by all film fans.
“Don’t you … forget about me ….”
Not a chance, John!
